Grassports Australia is proud to support School Sport Victoria’s Sport Excellence Scholarship Fund.

Each year, 900 students compete as members of Team Vic at the School Sport Australia National Championships. Each of these students has excelled at their sport, resulting in them being chosen to represent Victoria in a school sport state team. Many outstanding athletes have represented Team Vic in the past, including Steve Hooker, Gary Ablett Jnr, Brooke Stratton, Peter Hanscomb, Meg Lanning, Sharelle McMahon, Steph Catley, Ben Simmons, Mack Horton, and AFL Premiership Captain Trent Cotchin and many more.

While all young people selected for Team Vic have the talent and commitment to succeed, not all have the funds or support to take up the opportunity.

To eliminate this barrier to participation, School Sport Victoria has established the Sports Excellence Scholarship Fund. Scholarships are awarded to a number of the Team Vic state teams from the fund to help support Victorian students from low socio-economic, indigenous or rural and regional backgrounds, who have been selected to represent Victoria as a member of Team Vic.

Participating in sport provides young people with social, cultural and educational opportunities, encouraging healthy lifestyles, the development of life skills and lifelong friendships. For those from disadvantaged backgrounds, these benefits can be far reaching.

Grassports Australia connects people by providing healthy, safe and colourful spaces and providing fun environments for active kids, families, sports people and performance athletes. By supporting the work of School Sport Victoria, an organisation aligned with the values and purpose of Grassports Australia, we support more talented young Australians to be actively involved in sport.
